Social Worker I*
SALARY:
$36,219.00 - $47,782.00 Annually

DESCRIPTION:
Provides entry-level social work and case management services to adults, children, and/or
families with personal, social, health and economic needs.
*This position is designated as a safety sensitive position. A pre-employment drug
test will be required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all
that may be assigned.
Provides social work, assessment and ongoing eligibility determination for
clients. Identifies risk factors, conducts assessments, and makes home and school
visits. Provides a wide range of services, such as emergency assistance,
transportation, and child care, mental health and substance abuse referrals.
Collects information about individual clients to evaluate and assess needs and
barriers. Gathers information through interviewing, testing, counseling, and
assessment instruments.
Transports children and/or vulnerable adults, as needed. Provides supervised
visitation between parents and children in agency custody.
Identifies, develops and implements action plans that track progress towards goal(s).
Communicates and coordinates with other service providers.
Completes client information forms and records. Ensures case files are accurate and
up-to-date.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work.
Knowledge of relevant local, state and federal laws and regulations and department
policies and procedures.
Knowledge of methods and principles used to conduct intakes and provide
comprehensive case management.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interviewing, assessing and evaluating clients’ needs.
Skill in operating standard office equipment such as a computer, calculator, scanner,

copier, facsimile machine, and audiovisual equipment.
Skill in interpersonal relations.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's
degree in a human services field; or a Bachelor's degree and one year of directly
related experience.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of
North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. The applicant's
driving record will be verified by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles prior
to employment.
This position is designated as a safety sensitive position. A pre-employment drug test
will be required.
