Position Responsibilities
This position serves as an assistant to the agency attorney. The work involves
preparing court orders, legal briefs, court subpoenas and other legal documents for the
attorney's review; reading, researching, reviewing, verifying, and routing
correspondence, reports and legal document; drafting letters and documents; collection
and analyzing information; organizing and providing support at case meetings with
social workers and child support staff in preparation for court. Work also involves
assistance with researching cases, gathering necessary documents for trials and
submitting paperwork to the Clerk of Court's Office or private attorney offices. Performs
other duties as directed by the Attorney.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of office organization, workflow, and practice and procedures; knowledge of
legal terminology and the content, and format of legal documents and correspondence;
knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling, proofreading and
office and legal terminology to compose and/or proofread court summaries, court
orders, correspondence, reports and other legal documents; skilled typing ability and
knowledge of personal computers, hardware, software, and related applications and
systems; skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing; ability to record,
compile, summarize and analyze data; ability to review and process information to
determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations;
ability to interpret policy and legal content in making decisions and explaining policies,
regulations and programs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and
abilities gained through at least three years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or
completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administration program with
one year of responsible experience as described above; or an equivalent combination
of training and experience.
Special Requirements
Copies of final transcripts from accredited school showing date degree awarded must
be submitted with application. Must have a valid driver’s license and be in compliance
with the Rutherford County’s insurance regulations. Must have access to a vehicle.
Selection Process
The selection process will include a structured interview. Applications will be reviewed;
structured interview evaluations will be studied; educational and work experience
histories will be considered. After careful evaluation of the above-mentioned criteria the
appointing authority will appoint the applicant who in the judgment of the appointing
authority is best suited for the position.
