Earnings-related 11. supplement The upper l i m i t on t h e band o f w e e k l y e a r n i n g s on which earnings-related supplement i s t o be p a i d a t 15 p e r c e n t w i l l b e i n c r e a s e d from £48 t o £54 i n l i n e with t h e new upper l i m i t f o r g r a d u a t e d c o n t r i b u t i o n s ( s e e paragraph 2 4 ) . This supplement i s p a i d w i t h f l a t - r a t e b e n e f i t d u r i n g t h e f i r s t s i x months o f unemploy­ :r.ent, s i c k n e s s o r widowhood. The l o n g - t e r r a a d d i t i o n - which d a t e s from t h e i n c e p t i o n o f t h e s u p p l e m e n t a r y b e n e f i t s scheme i n I966 - i s i n t e n d e d t o p r o v i d e f o r e x t r a e x p e n s e s o f t h e k i n d which nay b e e x p e c t e d t o a r i s e i n l o n g - t e r m c a s e s . I t i s proposed t o incorporate this a d d i t i o n , o f 60p f o r t h o s e under t h e age o f 80 and o f 85p f o r t h o s e o v e r 80 i n t o new long-term r a t e s .
