CARE Week Sunday Mass | Heights Room | 10:15 p.m. A special reflection will be offered by the Women’s Center at 10:15 Mass in remembrance of survivors of violence and in support of healing for those affected in the Boston College community. Monday | April 11 In the Closet: Supporting Experiences of LGBQT Survivors | Eagles Nest | 7:00 p.m. An interactive, dynamic presentation and conversation with GLC, Bystander Intervention Education and the Women’s Center on the unique experiences of LGBQT survivors of sexual violence, and how we as a community can support healing and empowerment. Refreshments will be served. Tuesday | April 12 Intersections: The Dangers of Exoticization Across Race & Gender | Devlin 026 | 12:00 p.m. A lunchtime presentation and discussion on the impacts of exoticization of communities of color in media and society, and its connections to sexual and gender-based violence, victim blaming, and systems of oppression. Tuesday | April 12 | continued RELEASE: Healing and Empowerment through Expression | Devlin 413 | 4:00 p.m. A painting workshop centered in healing, empowerment and embodiment. SAHELI: Supporting Survivors of IPV in South Asian Communities | Devlin 103 N | 7:00 p.m. This workshop will discuss IPV and survivorship in South Asian communities and offer information on how to support the women they serve and their families in living safe and healthy lives. Saheli is a community-based women’s organization in New England, was founded in 1996. Wednesday | April 13 A Long Walk Home: Story of a Rape Survivor | Robsham Theater | 5:00 p.m. This hour-long program is an award winning multimedia performance that entertains as well as educates audiences about sexual assault prevention. Featuring the music of Nina Simone, Maxwell and Sade, it tells one woman’s story of reclaiming her body and self-esteem after being assaulted in college. SOARS is a cutting-edge theatrical experience that stars a diverse cast of women, combining photography, dance, spoken-word and poetry to show that shame, guilt and self-blame can be eased; that the stories of rape survivors can be one of triumph and hope. This event is free and all are welcome. No tickets necessary. Thursday | April 14 Take Back the Night | O’Neill Plaza | 6:00 p.m. CARE Week’s culminating event, Take Back the Night, is committed to raising awareness about sexual assault and raising the voices of victims. It is a powerful evening in which survivors of tell their stories in a compassionate environment comprised of their friends, peers, and entire BC community. Attendees are invited to participate in offering support during a walk of remembrance to a special place of reflection on Lower Campus, where the program concludes. Friday | April 15 Where We Stand: A Conversation on BC’s Response to Sexual Misconduct | Devlin 026 | 1:00 A interactive panel organized and moderated by UGBC in partnership with the Women’s Center on Boston College’s policies and approach to addressing and preventing sexual misconduct in the BC community. UBGC Vice President Olivia Hussey will serve as moderator, and the panel will feature staff from the VPSA, Dean of Student’s Office, and the Women’s Center. Healing from within the Body | 66 Multifaith Chapel | 4:00 An interactive trauma-informed workshop intended to support embodied practices of prayer, meditation and additional healing exercises through the lens of mindfulness and faith. Facilitated by BC Social Work Alumna, Erin Ramsey-Tooher. RSVP with the Women’s Center at women@bc.edu. Free and open to Boston College students. Space is limited.
