“Unraveling Conflicting Interpretations: A Reexamination of the
1916 Report on Social Studies.” A qualitative analysis of the Report
to determine how it has been regarded and interpreted over time. A
study of the various multiple societal and individual influences on the
1916 Committee that explores if, in fact, there is one dominant
interpretation, or, whether or not different interpretations are possible for
the 1916 Report on Social Studies. The analysis and conclusions
suggest a new interpretation of the 1916 Report on Social Studies which
argues that its educational philosophy and pedagogy may have been
significantly influenced directly and indirectly by John Dewey.
