UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE ______________________________________________________________________________ INTERIM LIFE SAFETY ______________________________________________________________________________ POLICY 1. It is the policy of this department to establish Interim Life Safety measures (ILSM) to provide alternate means of achieving equivalent life safety wherever normal means are compromised by construction or other activities. This policy is not to supercede hospital specific ILS policies. PROCEDURES 1. 2. Wherever a construction project or other activity is deemed by the Director to present a potential compromise of Life Safety, ILSM procedures will be implemented as follows: a. Before construction begins, the on-site construction manager will review the site with the Director of Safety and Environmental Compliance or the Fire Marshal to determine what hazards may exist and what preventive ILSM must be taken. b. During the course of the project, the construction manager will perform a daily inspection of the site and complete a checklist. See attachment A. c. A record of both the pre-construction plan and the daily inspections will be kept by the on site construction manager. In construction areas where there is a potential for spreading dust to a clean area, the following practices will be observed: a. Before the project starts, the on-site construction manager will review the site with the Director, Safety and Environmental Compliance or the Fire Marshal and establish appropriate protection measures as needed. Example: barriers, mats and HVAC routing. b. During the course of the project, the construction manager will perform a daily inspection of the site and complete a check list. See Attachment A. c. A final record of both the pre-construction plan and the daily inspections will be kept in the construction on site office and the Safety and Environmental Compliance. DATE 12.
