writing, English through film, and American culture. Assisted with the development of the
Center’s course on computer-aided instruction. Wrote a content-based, online English course on
water issues for the Tashkent (Uzbekistan) Institute of Irrigation and Melioration as part of a grant
through the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences at WSU.
Assisted with the IALC’s National Accreditation application and was responsible for the report on
curriculum. Assisted the Language Center in adapting WSU’s Critical Thinking Rubric into the
assessment used by the Center.
Instructor, International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan, 1991-1992
Taught English as a Second Language to freshmen and sophomores using content-based
methodology. Taught courses in critical thinking skills and composition, research writing, and
literature. Other duties included revising the listening and discussion curriculum, testing and
placement of students, and advising.

Taught courses in academic preparation and study skills, composition, research writing,

Taught ESL courses to a variety of levels and introductory Spanish. Some specialized courses
included English Through Film, American Short-Story, Business English, and Advanced Writing.

Literacy Instructor, Algonac Community Learning Center, Algonac, MI, Fall 1984
Assessed reading proficiency of students in an alternative high school. Wrote differentiated lesson
plans for 15 students at various reading levels, prepared instructional materials, and recorded
student progress.
EFL Instructor, The International School of English, Mexico City, Mexico, 1982-1984
Taught English as a Foreign Language to beginners through advanced learners. Provided a oneyear teacher training course to the faculty of Hesperia Elementary School, which included
classroom observation, the study of methodology, and materials development. Provided an
intensive teacher training course for the English teaching faculty at the Universidad del Valle de
Mexico, which included communicative methods, phonetics and phonology, materials selection,
teaching writing, assessment, and a teaching practicum. Returned to the Universidad del Valle to
conduct a one-month intensive course on teaching writing.

recorded-interview assessment, which was administered at two sites in Vietnam for the
Department of International Business.

faculty on curriculum review, provided workshops, and developed materials.

services, leading the accreditation process, developing marketing materials, recruitment, and the

Washington State University, Intensive American Language Center, 1993-2008
Served as Curriculum Coordinator. Worked with the faculty on implementing a content-based
curriculum; provided teacher training, faculty in-services on critical thinking skills, communicative
teaching practices, and error correction. Chaired the Materials Committee. Coordinated the
university conversation partner program with the Department of Foreign Languages and
Literatures and various departments within the university. Coordinated the testing of International
Teaching Assistants for the Graduate School.

Oversaw the mini-grant program, which provides funding for International Student Organization’s
