Parish Mission Statement
As a Jesuit Parish Community, animated by the spirit of St. Ignatius,
we welcome all to share in the joy of the Gospel
and to come to know, love and serve God and one another.
Dear Parishioners,
I wanted to tell you about our One Book, One Parish initiative. Many of us in the parish were so
moved by Pope Francis' Joy of the Gospel that the Pastoral Council decided it would like to
invite the whole parish to read it together over the next five months. The second Sunday of
each month will be Joy of the Gospel Sunday, and we will be facilitating conversations among
parishioners about the different sections of the document. We expect that they will take place
following the liturgies.
On Sunday November 23 at 2:00 pm we will have an inaugural event of music, dance, and
reflections from Staff and parishioners. We hope to feature many of the parish musicians who
fill us with JOY through their gifts. We are especially blessed to have Owen Young, cellist with
the BSO and one of our parishioners, as a special guest that afternoon. The event will be
followed by a wine and cheese reception.
RD
You can purchase copies of The Joy of the Gospel from the USSCB website or from Amazon.
You can also download a free copy from the Vatican website.
We also have created a page on Facebook where you can add comments about the document as
we read it together. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/StIggysBC
I do hope you will join other parishioners on November 23 to celebrate the feast of Christ the
King of the Universe and The Joy of the Gospel.
RD
Sincerely,
Fr. Bob

“WE REMEMBER THEM": COPING WITH LOSS DURING THE HOLIDAYS
The loss of a loved one is difficult any time of the year, but the holidays can be
especially challenging for those struggling with bereavement. If grief has changed
your experience and expectations for the holidays, if the peace and joy of the season
seem far removed, you are not alone. Please join us and others of the parish family
who have lost loved ones for a Service of Remembrance on Sunday afternoon,
November 16 from 3:00-5:30 pm . We will first gather in the Parish Center (lower level meeting room).
th
We will then move to the adjacent Mary Chapel for a service of remembrance. You are invited to bring a
photo or memento of your loved one. Light refreshments will be served.
For more information or to
register for this program, please call the Parish Office at 617-552-6102.
THE BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE
The Book of Remembrance will be in the Church during the month of November. If you have loved ones
who have died and would like them remembered, please inscribe their names in the Book of
Remembrance.
WANT MORE INSIGHT INTO THE READINGS YOU HEAR AT MASS?
Join us for PASTA & PRAYER, a prayerful conversation with friends over dinner to discuss
the Sunday scriptures. Feed your body, mind and soul!!
The next session, “Mine Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation”, we will discuss the readings for
the Advent Season. The session will take place on Thursday, November 13 (note change in
th
date!) in the Dining Room at the Parish Office from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Newcomers are always
welcome!
Prior registration required: Call Catherine at 617-782-5812 or e-mail to
cfdesq@hotmail.com, to reserve a place at the table.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES
Shattuck Holiday Meal: Sign-ups for the Meal begin next weekend,
November 15th/16th. The menu will again feature roasted turkey breast,
so if you think you might like to provide that, you may want to purchase it
before Thanksgiving, since they are often difficult to find after the
holiday. We’ll need twenty-one turkeys, each to serve ten.
Christmas Gift Drive: The Gift Drive will also kick off next weekend. In
addition to the Gift Drive tree gifts, we’re providing the opportunity
to gift eight families from St. Patrick’s Parish in Lawrence and eight
families from the Lynn Collaborative of St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart.
We expect to have the family profiles soon; if your family might like
to “adopt” one of the families, please contact Sr. Diane for family information,
vallerio@bc.edu.
Shattuck Fourth Tuesday: We will be serving dinner to the Shattuck Shelter
Guests on Tuesday, November 25th. Perhaps you could bake a bit
extra when you’re doing your Thanksgiving baking and bring it in for
the November 25th dinner? Desserts need to be at the Parish Office by
4PM on the 25th, but you may bring your donation earlier and can
leave it inside the front door of the Parish Office building. Thank you to
the bakers and servers that have enabled us to continue our long-running
ministry to the Shelter Guests.
ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is held on Friday beginning at 12:45 pm. The Chaplet of Divine
Mercy is prayed at 3:00 pm. All are invited to join in this time of prayer and reflection.

Me alegra
Padre Bob
