Faith Formation News November is Religious Education Month within the Archdiocese of Boston, therefore, an excellent opportunity to thank all of the catechists, assistant catechists and parents who make our Faith Formation Program possible. We could not run our programming without you! Thank you to Portia Durbin for coming up with the idea for our "Earth Ball" in the Lannon Chapel and for assembling it for us. The Earth Ball contains strips of paper that children wrote their responses to the Pope's encyclical Laudato Si. Look for a video on the website soon! Thank you to the Linssen Family for purchasing and decorating 360 ornaments for our reverse collection for donations to create "Harvest of Welcome" baskets. These donated items will be assembled into baskets that will be distributed through Catholic Charities to refugees being resettled into the Greater Boston area. Comparto con ustedes este poema del Padre José María Olaizola, S.J. que expresa ese sentido de las cosas que duran hasta le eternidad. Music Ministry Spotlight: The Children Carol Choir The Carol Choir is the youngest singing ensemble at St. Ignatius. Children from grades three through six are members. There are also a few second graders, who are considered on an individual basis. In addition to learning hymns and other liturgical music, the choir learns the place of music in liturgy, basic musical and vocal skills, and plays teaching games that are great fun. The choir members enjoy meeting new friends, having a surprise treat, and some parties throughout the season. We rehearse Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in the Choir Media Room, on the lower level of the church. The choir season is from September through early May. They offer music at either 10 am Family Mass , or noon mass, in the Upper Church, on a monthly basis. Two highlights of the season are Pumpkin Caroling, to a Senior Residence, and the noon Good Friday Stations of the Cross Service, in the Upper Church. New members are welcomed through the season. Timothy Zimmerman conducts the choir, with Susan Moran as accompanist. Please contact Timothy zimmerta@bc.edu or 617.552.6114 for questions or more information. ARRUPE* = Assisting Refugee Resettlement Using Parish Energies For more information, please contact Cynthia Bravo at cynthia.bravo@bc.edu See BC's International Education Week Schedule of Events at: http://www.bc.edu/offices/international/events/iew2015. html Father Bob’s Wish List St. Ignatius is a beautiful building that has been my spiritual home for 27 years. Over those 27 years I estimate that I have had the honor of celebrating Mass 10,000 times (give or take!) Then there would be Baptisms, weddings, prayer services and other liturgies. Over those years I have seen the beauty of the church building enhanced by a new lighting system, additional organ console and pipes, baptismal font and sanctuary extension (predella), restored baptistery tower, (now Chapel of Reservation). On the lower level we renovated the Friary Room, kitchen and transformed the boiler room into a wonderful choir media room. On the more functional side, we have added a new heating and cooling system. We also added three lifts and a handicap ramp to provide accessibility for all. I am aware that an old stone building like St. Ignatius will always need upkeep and ongoing maintenance. MY FIRST WISH IS FOR THE REPAIR OF THE BUTTRESS ON THE COMMONWEALTH AVE SIDE OF THE CHURCH. This section of the church is in critical need of repair as it affects the organ chamber. One of my highest priorities as pastor has been the aesthetic element of our liturgical worship. We have been so blessed to have the musical artistry of Michael Burgo and Timothy Zimmermann for so many years and now that of Paul Melley. Countless musicians, singers and instrumentalists have animated our liturgy with exquisite beauty and reverence. We also have been blessed to have the dance artistry of the Boston Liturgical Dance Ensemble that has contributed a unique form of prayer and praise. MY SECOND WISH IS FOR A FUND THAT CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THE ARTS IN WORSHIP AT ST. IGNATIUS. Beautiful music, dance and environment are the sine qua non of our prayer and worship at St Ignatius. The Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius have been at the heart of my spiritual Journey as a Jesuit. They have animated by pastoral leadership. One of the greatest gifts I have been given and shared are our parish retreats at Eastern Point Retreat House. MY THIRD WISH IS FOR A FUND THAT SUPPORTS THE PARISH RETREATS AT EASTERN POINT. Given that the cost of these retreats has increased over the years, I would like to assure that anyone who would like to make the parish retreat would have the financial support necessary. Our sister parish in Jamaica, St. Anne’s, has been another blessing for me during my pastorate. The parish trips to Jamaica and the projects that we have undertaken like the painting of the church, the building of the playground, the computer center for the school and so much more have helped us as a parish to be connected to the wider church, a sister parish that has so few resources other than its people. MY FOURTH WISH IS FOR A FUND THAT PROVIDES ONGOING SUPPORT FOR ST. ANNE’S PARISH. Pilgrimage to Ireland and France A Pilgrimage to Knock, Ireland and Lourdes, France will take place from February 5-13, 2016. The pilgrimage will be led by Spiritual Director Fr. Tim Murphy from Saint Mary Parish in Waltham. For brochure or additional information, please call Mary Henry at Marian Pilgrimages 781-331-2444 or email mary@marianusa.com. Day of Recollection sponsored by the Catholic Daughters Saturday, November 7, beginning with 9:00 am Mass in St. Columbkille lower church, 321 Market Street, Brighton. Deacon Tom Olson will speak on Ignatian Prayer Exercises and give a demonstration. There will be a boxed lunch followed by the recitation of the Rosary using the methods learned in the morning. The day will end with the opportunity for Confession in the lower church at 3:00 pm. Open to all women and men. The cost is $15.00 to cover the lunch. Please contact Patricia McShane at 617-782-5774 ext. 101 to register. Seeking Eucharistic Ministers Elizabeth Seton Residence is in need of Eucharistic Ministers. We are a Catholic nursing home in Wellesley. Mass is celebrated daily at 11:00 am. If you have a desire to serve, please contact: Linda Colozzi, (781) 997-1119 and reserve your seat in our next orientation session on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 1:30 pm. Save the Date Reserve Friday, January 8, 2016 for an evening concert. The world-renowned Westminster Choir of Princeton, New Jersey will be performing at St. Ignatius. The varied program will be sung by the 40 voice touring choir, as part of their winter tour. You will not want to miss it!
