Queensborough Community College The City University of New York Article I. Name The name of the organization shall be the Student Nurse Association which shall be affiliated with Queensborough Community College. Article II. Purpose of the Student Nurses Association: Section 1. To maintain and uphold the ideals of Queensborough Community College, and to promote student cooperation with the faculty and staff. Section 2. To uphold the highest standards of scholarship, honor, and integrity in all matters of personal conduct and to provide opportunity for all students expression in general and professional interests. Section 3. To provide for representative student government in accordance to Queensborough Community College, and to enact and enforce these regulations in accordance with the interest of the student body and in harmony with the school administration. Section 4. To insure on the part of students, an intelligent understanding of student duties and obligations as well as student rights and privileges as members ofSNA. Section 5. To develop a conscious awareness of our responsibility and accountability of high quality nursing care. Section 6. To coordinate the extra-curricular activities in the school, providing recreational as well as informed activities. Article III. Section 1. Membership: a. All nursing students currently enrolled in nursing courses (NU10 1, 102, 201,202,203) shall be eligible to become members ofthe SNA with the right top vote. b. Member are charged $7.00 membership fee per semester which will be paid at the first meeting. *NO PERSON SHALL BE DENIED MEMBERSHIP OR OFFICE IN THIS ORGANIZATION BECAUSE OF RACE, COLOR, RELIGIOUS BELIEFS OF NONBELIEFS, NATIONAL ORIGIN, SEX, POLITICAL BELIEFS, VETERAN, HADICAPPED STATUS OR SEXUAL ORIENTATION. Article IV. Section 1. Duties of Officers In order to hold office, you must be an active member. An active member is defined as: 1. A paid member 2. One who attends meetings on a regular basis. 3. A working member of at least one committee. President: a. Must a Grade Point Average (GPA) of2.75 or above. b. Must attend and conduct all meetings of SNA unless a valid reason is given for absence. c. Responsible for all activities and functions conducted by the SNA. d. Shall be an ex-officio member on all standing committees. e. Responsible for seeking advice from faculty advisors and reporting all activities of organization. f. Responsible for attending all meetings as a representative of SNA when required. 1st Vice President: a. Maintain a Grade Point Average of2.75 or above. b. Must assume all duties of the president in his/her absence. c. Must attend all organizational and executive board meetings. d. Assumes position of the president if for any reason the student in that capacity is unable to fill in. e. Maintains the job opportunity bulletin boards and correspondence so related to it. 2nd Vice President: a. Maintain a Grade Point Average of2.75 or above. b. Must attend all organization al and executive board meetings. c. Must assume all duties of the 1st vice president in his/ her absence. d. Assumes position of 1st vice president if for any reason the student in that capacity is unable to fill in. e. Responsible for ex-officios. f. Responsible for party planning. g. Responsible for the locked bulletin board outside M344. Secretary: a. Maintain a Grade Point Average of2.75 or above. b. Must attend all organizational an executive board meetings. c. Responsible for official minutes taken at SNA organizational and executive board meetings and keep them on file. d. Head of public relations committee. f. Must know how to type. Treasurer: a. Maintain a Grade Point Average of 2.75 or above. b. Must attend all organizational and executive board meetings. c. Must maintain clear and meticulous records of SNA funds and spending. d. If credit has not been established at a local bank, action to do this must be initiated in the name of the SNA. Senator: a. Maintain a Grade Point Average of2.75 or above. b. In-charge of knowing the constitution and bylaws. c. Must attend all organizational, college senate, executive board meetings. d. Head project and planning committee. * All board members must be available to interface with faculty advisors and office staff during Nursing Department office meetings especially on Wednesdays during club hours. If there is no representative from the executive board present, then there shall be a representative appointed by the executive board. Section 2. Election Procedures: A. Elections of the executive board shall be held at the last month of the semester. The ex officios will be appointed during the semester as students are available. B. Candidates must be elected by a majority vote by secrete ballot. C. All nominations for officers shall be made one month prior to election. D. Students in both NU-201 and NU-202 may be eligible to run for office. E. All nominees must complete a form provided by the current SNA comprising of their goals, current overall GPA, as well as their contact information. F. Names of selected nominees and their qualifications shall be shall be posted on the SNA board two weeks prior to election. G. Each candidate must be nominated and have their nomination seconded by current SNA members, in order to become official candidates. H. An evening student as well as a day student must represent the two Vice President positions. 1. The names of the candidates under every indicated position must be alphabetized on the ballots. J. No changes shall be made on the ballots. If a candidate wishes to remove their name from the ballots, a written consent must be submitted to the current SNA 2 weeks prior to the elections. K. In order for write-in to be valid, the first and last name of the nominee must be included. L. Election results shall be posted and / or announced immediately following 24 hours after voting. M. Tallying of votes shall be done by two or more students chosen by the executive board supervised by the club adviser or his/her appointee. N. In the event there are not enough SNA officers elected to the SNA board, the club advisor(s) and currently elected members of the SNA can do a hand vote to elect new members. Article V. Meetings: The organization with all its members shall meet at least twice monthly. A quorum Consisting of four officers and a faculty advisor is necessary for transaction of any business. Of The four officers present, one of them must be the secretary and! or hislher representative. Article VI. Amendment Procedures: Propose amendments should be present at least one week prior to meeting. Proposed amendments must be presented first to SNA executive board the voted and agreed on by at least four SNA members before presentation to Student Government Executive Board. Article VII. Ratification: This constitution and all its amendments must be approved by the Student Government Executive Board. Article VIII. Conduct of Meetings: The Robert's Rule of Order must always govern this organization.
