Queensborough Community College Student Constitution Article I Model United Nations Competition Team Article II 1.Gain insight into the workings of the United Nations and the dynamics of international relations by providing opportunities to assume the roles of UN representatives. 2. Understand relations between countries. 3. Allow Queensborough students the opportunity to engage students from colleges across the globe in debate. 4. Carry out in-depth research that includes geography, history, science, and economics related to international issues. 5. Debate the issues that confront world leaders and draft resolutions in response to global issues. 6. Develop and experience important social skills such as teamwork, group cooperation, conflict resolution, negotiation, consensus-building, critical thinking, public speaking, and listening. Article III Attend Queensborough Community College Article IV No person shall be denied membership or office in this organization because of race, color, religious belief, or non-belief, national origin, political beliefs, veteran, handicapped status, professional status, or sexual orientation. Article V Section 1 Executive duties -Must assign countries and topics before every club/team session. -Must notify students on club dates and events -Must play role as lead chair in session simulations. -Advised to teach students techniques, rules of procedure, and objectives regarding Model United Nations -Assume role as Team Leader -Assume role as club/team President Vice Presidential duties -Must participate as assistant chair when session holds more then 11 students -Advise team President after session has ended on matters of rules, leadership, and events regarding the Model United Nations -If the President is absent during session, the Vice President must assume role as team/club Executive and carry its duties -If President is removed or resigns from the Model United Nations, Vice President must take position as President and assign a new Vice President. Group Senator -Assume position as Model United Nation Competition Team representative in Student-Body Section 2 Executive position is elected by previous President and ratified by simple majority. Elected President chooses Vice President and ratified by simple majority. Senator appointed by simple majority Executive position is urged to be given to students with the most attendance and participation If executive does not show up to more then two consecutive sessions, he is removed as President and replaced by the Vice president The advisor is allowed to remove the President for any given reason and/or replace any office position with another student, supported by simple majority vote. Article VI Meeting must be held every week for more then two hours Meetings and events must be organized by team/club President Article VII All amendments shall be determined by the advisor with his/her signature on the bottom Article VIII This constitution and all amendments to it must be approved by the appropriate governing body (QSA Student Senate) Article IX Most meetings are conducted according to Robert’s Rules or Order, although moderate rather than strict parliamentary procedures are normally followed.
