CAPTURE SHEET – THOUGHTUL NOTE MAKER – DUE Friday, April 9 Make notes to yourself in the following critical areas that reflect your OWN thinking which has been influenced this semester by assigned readings, this teaching seminar, your field experiences, class and on-line discussions. You are to attach this capture sheet as a demonstration of the quality of your thinking before writing the final synthesis paper. Also attach the appropriate rubric. What fresh, new approaches could you take with the adolescent students in your future classroom (content area) to influence them about how note making can enhance their study skills and why it is important to them personally? (How can you put a positive “spin” on studying? Hint: You have to believe it yourself!) Your colleagues have presented some possibilities in the seminar, Strong/Silver has given you much to consider, and Brandt has many real life examples included in his Powerful Learning book. What are some strategies you have learned about from Tovani, the research on best practices, and this Teaching Seminar that will engage your learners with the text and topic so that they are practicing and gaining confidence in their own abilities to use the language arts—thereby becoming more literate? If teachers are “life-long learners” then what note making strategies have you learned from the Strong/Silver reading and this seminar that will make YOU a better learner?
