Mobile Employment Trends
For the year ending 2015
This annual report contains a profile of Mobile employment for the 2015 year and previous
periods. It contains the 10 industrial categories reported regularly by the U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics. The purpose is to provide a central source of employment data that may be used
as reference, and to encourage consistency in the figures reported by all interested users.
Additional data has been added on the Mobile unemployment rate, number unemployed, percent
change in unemployment, number employed, and percent change in civilian labor force.
The 10 NAICS industrial categories are the following:

Mobile's 2015 annual average unemployment rate was 6.9%, which is higher than Alabama's 2015 rate of 6.1%
and the U.S. rate of 5.3%. Mobile's unemployment rate was below the national average from 2006 to 2008, but
has been above it since then. Alabama's unemployment rate was below the national average from 2006 to 2007,
but with the exceptions of 2012 and 2013, has been above it since then. Mobile's unemployment rate has
decreased from its peak in 2009 of 11.3% to 6.9% in 2015. Alabama's unemployment rate has also decreased
from its peak in 2009 of 11.1% to 6.1% in 2015. Although Mobile's unemployment rate has improved some, it is
still above the national average.

Mobile's 2015 annual average number of people employed has decreased by 0.12% to 169,737 from the
previous year. Alabama's 2015 annual average number of people employed increased by 0.45% to 2,011,216
from the previous year. Over the last 10 years, Mobile's peak year for number employed was 2007 with 177,096,
while Alabama's peak year for number employed was also 2007 with 2,085,624. Since then, Mobile's number of
people employed has decreased by 4.16% or 7,359. For Alabama, the number of people has decreased by
3.57% or 74,408.

Mobile's 2015 annual average civilian labor force has decreased by 0.94% since 2014, while Alabama's 2015
annual average civilian labor force has decreased by 0.23% in the same time period. Over the last 10 years,
Mobile's peak for civilian labor force was in 2011 with 193,773, while Alabama's peak was in 2011 with 2,198,144.
Since 2006, Mobile's civilian labor force has increased by 0.21%, or 382 people, while Alabama's civilian labor
force has decreased by 1.09%, or 23,634 people.
