c. Nursing Repeat Policy Change
NU 101 Repeat Policy (old policy)
Students may repeat only one nursing
course (NU-101, NU-102, NU-201 or NU202) in the Clinical Program, one time
only, on a space available basis. This
includes students who withdrew from a
course after the first day for any reason and
students who completed the course with a
grade below C.
NU 101 Repeat Policy (new policy)
Students may repeat only one nursing
course (NU-101, NU-102, NU-201 or NU202) in the Clinical Program, one time
only, on a space available basis. However,
a repeat of NU-101 will require an approval
from the Nursing Department Appeals
Committee. This includes students who
withdrew from a course after the first day,
for any reason, and students who completed
the course with a grade below C.
Rationale: The Nursing Department recently studied 5 cohorts of NU 101 failures during
the period between Fall 2005 and Spring 2007. Our findings are noted below:
•
•
•
•
•
•
A total of 43 students failed NU101
Of the 43, 17 (40%) chose not to repeat NU101
18 (42%) failed subsequent Nursing courses
2 are currently in the program, one of which was granted an appeal to repeat
6 have graduated
3 have received licensure

The Committee would also be asked to review curricular
modifications and course revisions to accommodate Learning
Academies
On-going consideration of the curricular impact of eportfolios; consideration of the possibility of an STX-100
that would be full-semester, 1 credit (with the notion that the
Curriculum Committee would vet the syllabus of such a
course, and review who would teach it, what it would cover,
and whether it would become a single-credit required course,
or a pre-requisite for English 101.)
assess the effectiveness of QCC basic skills remediation,
particularly in light of recent decrease in those passing the
exit exams
Review curricular implications for the possibility of extra
contact hours for selected remedial courses (noting Middle
States and statistical findings on learning outcomes in this
area)
As part of welcoming the Veterans into civilian life;
formulate DANTES policy for granting credit for military
service.
Work with members of Humanities Departments to
implement a “Speech Across the Curriculum” requirement;

Work with the committee on Computer Resources and the
Committee on Distance learning to review syllabus
modifications to integrate the E-portfolio into course

asynchronous on-line courses;
Work as needed with the Special Committee on On-Line
Programs to evaluate any on-line curriculum issues that may
arise, in concert with the Committee on Distance Education
study the status of the Humanities at QCC- creation of sub

progress, although a new designee from the Department of
History needs to be named to replace Dr. Michael Proulx,
who has left the college)
