Processing/Digital Archivist Description The Processing/Digital Archivist processes The Doy Leale McCall Rare Book and Manuscript Library collections of all format types by arranging, preserving, and writing finding aids. Coordinates the processing and preservation of program materials and maintains the webpage. Responsible for the digitization of McCall materials and creation of corresponding metadata. Composes descriptions as needed for digital objects and submits the descriptions to the archivist for review and approval. Supervises student workers and also monitors the transcription process. Provide research and reference assistance to users of The Doy Leale McCall Rare Book and Manuscript Library collections. Monitors Reading Room researchers, and explains and enforces policies and procedures. Will assist in designing exhibits. Posts daily to the McCall social media platforms. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track Library faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian with a start date of August 15, 2016. Qualifications: Required: ALA accredited MLS, or MA in a related field. One year of experience in a library, archives, or museum; processing archival collections and writing finding aids; application of metadata content and metadata standards relevant to the archival control of digital objects (Dublin Core, MODS). Previous publications or presentations. Knowledge of best practices for the arrangement, description, and preservation of collections. Familiarity with archival collections management systems or databases, such as PastPerfect. Demonstrated ability to work individually and collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Preferred: Understanding of copyright and rights management issues. Experience working with social media platforms, such as Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter. Review of applications will begin June 1, 2016 and will continue until position filled.
