DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This position will provide direct supervision to a social work staff that provides intense
social work services to individuals and families in the community who request or are referred for crisis
resolution/diversionary assistance. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, coordination of work flow,
assessing and compiling statistical data, identifying and providing training needs of staff, ensuring quality of work
performance, assuring program implementation and compliance through extensive assessments by staff to identify needs
of families/children. Provide oversight for agency’s Crisis Intervention Program operation and funding. Coordination and
Referrals to other community providers/agencies to assist families in accessing community resources is important in the
development of service plans. Position requires leadership, organization, and creativity in assisting with developing and
implementing program initiatives identified within our Work First County Plan. This position will require the ability to fully
understand the philosophy of welfare reform and promote work, personal and parental responsibility to help families
retain/obtain employment. Extensive collaboration with community groups, inter/intra-agency programs, local service
providers, and businesses is critical to success of promoting self-sufficiency of job seekers. Requires the ability to work
effectively in a team setting and maintain a cooperative and effective working relationship with team members,
community professionals and agency leaders. Good oral and written communication skills are essential, along with good
organization skills. Requires intermediate computer skills. Must have a valid NC driver’s license and dependable
transportation.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of
social work or counseling experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of
social work or counseling experience; or a master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or
counseling experience; or four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester
hours in courses related to social work or counseling and three years of social work or counseling; or graduation from a
four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related
human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization.
PREFERENCES: Prefer applicants with experience in a department of social services and experience in welfare to work
programs.
Degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
