CSTEEP Lecture Series: Monday, March 21, 2016 from 12pm1.15pm in McGuinn 334 Presentation by Brahm Fleisch, Professor of Education Policy and Head of the Division of Education Leadership and Policy Studies at the Wits School of Education, University of Witwatersrand Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa on "System-wide Instructional Reform in the Global South." Abstract At the core of the new knowledge in the field of educational change are case studies of high-performing systems in the Global North and East Asia. However, the knowledge base for low-performing systems in the Global South is very limited. This presentation draws on a complex instructional reform change journey in South Africa. It explores how contextual dynamics shape the meaning of state-led improvement, system leadership, policy/program coherence, performativity, instructional coaching, prescriptive lesson planning, professional accountability, and emotions in change. Brahm Fleisch is a prolific scholar whose current research and professional work focuses on successful system-wide instructional reform. He has also held the position of a district director in the newly formed Gauteng Department of Education (1995-2000). Since 2011, he has served as the advisor to the Gauteng Department of Education and the National Education Collaboration Trust.
