MISSION
The Office of Military and Veterans Services provides support and assistance to our military service
members, veterans, and their families as they pursue their academic goals at Queensborough Community
College. We meet that objective by providing intentional and focused outreach to our population, while
assisting our students with admissions, career services, financial aid/benefits, benefit certification,
academic advisement, outside agency referrals, and other areas that may arise.

Indicators to Be
Assessed
Benefit Advisement
Assist students in locating benefits in reference to
educational expenses, health and well-being related
costs, other areas as needed. Assist students with the
benefit application, as well as any concerns as they
go through the initial, continuing, or any appeals
processes with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs.
Timeliness in Certification (dependent upon Dept. of
Veterans Affairs processing time and when student
submits all required documentation).
Notifications made through email blast from our
office, by phone, and regular mail. During
advisement we discuss benefits, class/major
selection, and career/employment opportunities, other
areas as they arise.
Students utilizing this benefit often need assistance
managing or locating resources as they apply for
these benefits. We assist with the initial stages of the
application process with follow-up as needed.

Veterans/Military/Dependents with their transition
into the college community. One goal is to bring
outside speakers from the VA and/or other resources
to campus at least once each term.
As students come by the office with various
questions or concerns, we make as needed referrals to
local support agencies to assist with various aspects
of health and well-being.
Coordinate response to situations with students in
crisis, always working collaboratively with the VA
hospitals, QCC Counseling office, and other agencies
as needed.
Via the Starfish system and CUNYfirst, try to
monitor student success
