Academic Advisement The purpose of Academic Advisement is to assist both degree and non-degree students in developing meaningful educational plans that are compatible with their life goals, both short and long-term, and aiding them in dealing with related areas such as career goals, motivation, and advanced study. The ultimate responsibility for making decisions about educational plans and life goals rests with the individual student. The academic advisor should assist students by helping to identify and assess alternatives and the consequences of their decisions. Changes to the Academic Advisement Plan This year we made a few changes to the Academic Advisement No Plan. The Advisement Center is responsible for seeing the majority of continuing students on campus. These changes were done in an effort to increase consistency and flow of information to students. It may be a bit early to assess this indicator, but so far preliminary results have shown that students are less confused and have been complaining less about being sent around from department to department. Increase graduation rates In collaboration with Academic and Student Affairs, the Yes Advisement Center has been working to streamline the degree audit system. Students are advised and given a graduation audit in the same meeting. These audits serve as reminders to students, and help them understand the requirements left to satisfy their remaining degree requirements.
