We meet that objective by providing intentional and focused outreach to our population, while assisting our students with admissions, career services, financial aid/benefits, benefit certification, academic advisement, outside agency referrals, and other areas that may arise. DEPARTMENT CHANGES, 2014-2015 Type (from menu) Description of Change Reason for Change Date / Semester Appointment of Edwin Gonzalez as the new Program/Office Coordinator Prior Coordinator resigned as of August 2014 August 2014 Facilities/Space Office of Military and Veterans Services moved to Library Bldg, 421. January 2015 Other/Website/ Technology Implemented a new website where students may submit their request for certification of VA benefits and comments with their request Program outgrew the previous location. More space was needed in order to use the assistance from PROVE interns and VET Mentors The need to create a database of students who are certified for GI Bill benefits. Contact information and permission to send them text notifications. New and continuing Student Veterans need to sign up for some benefits directly with the VA. The VA is coming to them. Personnel Change Other/ VA on Campus Stablished a relationship with the local Queens Vet Center for monthly outreach Evaluation of Change* The current staff is serving the primary needs of our population. Compromises are sometimes made for out-reach services and activities in order to concentrate in providing academic advisement, benefits certification, admissions guidance, and crisis management regarding VA/School debt among others. Several students have expressed gratitude for the new space. The new suite facilitates interaction between staff and allows us to provide new students with more solutions in one space.
