1. ENHANCEMENTS TO THE RITS USER INTERFACE
On 12 November 2007 the latest upgrade to the RITS User Interface becomes
available in Production. The upgrade was implemented in Pre-Production on
8 October.
The upgrade mainly covers RITS administrative and reporting functionality used
exclusively by the RITS System Administrators in the Reserve Bank.
However, important changes have also been made to the software used for digital
signing of transactions and to the software requirements for RITS. These topics are
covered later in this paper.
A number of enhancements have also been made to the functions used by Members.
These are described below.
For Password Administrators:
•
To assist Password Administrators in changing the passwords of their RITS
users, the name of the user is now displayed beside the Username in the
function Password Administration.
•
A new report, called the User Privileges Report, has been developed
following feedback from Members requesting a more convenient way to
obtain user access information to assist with Members’ internal compliance
monitoring.

The User Privileges Report displays details of the access privileges allocated
to users. For each user it displays the functions that have been allocated and
the functions that the user may authorise, the date of the last password
change and the session time-out setting. A count is provided for the number
of functions allocated and the number of functions that may be authorised.
This report is available from the Member Reports facility as a PDF
download. Refer to the Reports User Guide for instructions on downloading
the report. A section of a hypothetical report is shown below.

A change has been made to the options available in the RITS Status drop
down list in the User Details screen of the function User Privileges to help
clarify what actions are being undertaken in each choice. Previously, the
options were Active, Inactive and Delete. The Delete option has been
replaced by Inactive/Revoke Certificate. The underlying functionality has not
changed, but it is now clearer what the third option does. When this option
is selected and submitted, a confirmation screen is displayed which asks if
you wish to proceed. If the answer is “Yes”, the user’s status is changed to
Inactive and the digital certificate is revoked. Note that a digital certificate
can also be revoked by opening the Certificate Administration link and
selecting options from that screen. The changes are shown in the following
screen shots.
Select Inactive/Revoke Certificate and submit. The following confirmation
screen is then displayed.

Select “Yes” to inactive the user and revoke the certificate.
For all users:
• More information about session times has been added to the Header that
displays in every screen. The Header now shows the current SWIFT
session, in addition to the current primary session. Also added are the
closing times of the SWIFTFINAL and REPORTS sessions. The
hyperlink on both of the Current Sessions opens the RITS Time and Session
Information screen.

When the functions Cash Transfers / Enquiry and Batches / Enquiry are
selected from the menu, the functions are now opened with the list already
populated with data based on the default filter criteria. It is no longer
necessary to use <Find> to initiate your search, unless you wish to search
for records using other selections in the filter criteria. These enhancements
were suggested at the RITS User Group forums held in February.
•
A new report has been developed for batch administrators. The Batch
Feeder Audit Report provides a history of both terminal-entered and
(SWIFT) message-entered batches. It is accessed via the System Reports
facility. Refer to the Reports User Guide for instructions on viewing and
downloading the report.
2. NEW SOFTWARE FOR DIGITAL SIGNING AND CONFIRMING ACCESS
On 12 November RITS is introducing new software to facilitate the signing of value
transactions and at log on. The new software is already available in the Pre-Production
environment.
This new software is downloaded “on demand” each time the user logs onto RITS.
This process occurs in the background, and should not impact users. However, we
request that at least one key operational user for every Member test that they can
successfully log onto RITS Pre-Production and run the RITS Test Card using the new
software.
If any difficulties are experienced please contact the RITS Help Desk.
To ensure that all users will have uninterrupted access to RITS after 12 November we
ask that Password Administrators contact the RITS Help Desk by Friday 26 October
to confirm access in Pre-Production. Shortly after, the RITS Help Desk will follow up
with remaining Members who have not yet contacted the RBA.
The new arrangements replace the need to store digital signing software on users’
PCs. The redundant software that is already on users’ PCs will not interfere with RITS
and detailed instructions on how to remove it will be supplied shortly.
For more details on the changes to signing software, refer to the updated Member
Technical Information Paper, which is available on the RITS Information Facility.

3. SUPPORTED DESKTOP PLATFORMS
A change has been made to the Java software requirements for RITS.
Sun’s Java Runtime (JRE) v1.4.2_10 is the preferred version for use with RITS.
However, from 12 November RITS will be compatible with the following Java versions:
1.4.2_10, 1.5.0_11, 1.6.0_01. Compatibility with future JRE versions will be confirmed
to Members in updates to Information Papers.
If you have any questions about JRE compatibility with RITS, please contact the RITS
Help Desk.
Members should include RITS access in their planning and testing of future PC
(hardware or software) or network (ANNI, Internet or LAN) changes.

More information is provided in the updated Technical Information Paper (October
2007), which is available from the RITS Information Facility.
4. REMOVAL OF REDUNDANT USER LOGONS
Existing user logons in the old Telnet interface that were not carried forward into the
new interface by pre-enrolling the user for a digital certificate, currently appear in the
UI function User Privileges with the username “Null Null’.
These redundant user logons will shortly be removed from both the Pre-Production
and Production environments.
If new user logons are required, Password Administrators should complete a User
Access Request Form, which is available from the RITS Information Facility, and send
it to the RITS Help Desk.
5. RITS USER GROUP
RITS user forums were held in Sydney and Melbourne during August. The sessions
were well attended and feedback was positive. The sessions covered Member
feedback obtained at the previous round of sessions and the Reserve Bank’s plans to
investigate and implement enhancements where appropriate.
Several banks noted minor display problems that had been experienced intermittently
when logging on to RITS. Members were encouraged to contact the RITS Help Desk if
they experience any problems logging onto RITS so that appropriate technical
assistance can be provided.
The PowerPoint presentations from the sessions are available to Members through the
RITS Information Facility in the RITS Production and Pre-Production environments.
The next round of user forums is scheduled for February 2008.
