Academic Coach – Filene Center for Academic Advising and Career Services Wheaton College, Norton, MA http://wheatoncollege.edu/advising/ Position Title Work Schedule Academic Year Schedule Academic Coach (Graduate Practicum or Internship – unpaid) Monday – Friday, 10-15 hours per week (flexible schedule), some weekends August 15, 2016 – May 13, 2016 (Semester Long Option also available) (2 week pre-service training August 10-21, 20 hours each week) Position Type Department Internship/Practicum Filene Center for Academic Advising and Career Services – The Filene Center for Academic Advising and Career Services helps to enrich the Wheaton College educational experience by fostering successful academic, career and personal development. Our mission focuses on connecting the Wheaton College classroom with our of classroom experience by enabling students to maximize their academic success through a variety of outreach, programmatic and advising initiative; helping students to discover the broad array of out of classroom opportunities, to define and reach their goal of becoming confident, responsible, and reflective learners through the course of four years and beyond; and working collaboratively with members of the faculty and other offices on campus. Job Summary/Basic Functions Develop a coaching relationship with students who have requested academic support and monitoring and to student identified needing outreach. Coaches will assist students with priority and time management, study strategies, regular check-in and other related support as needed. Students may be on academic probation, identified through the college’s early alert system or be referred to coaches by faculty or staff. Coaches will perform an initial intake with each student to determine a plan of action to aid in their academic success. Coaches will make referrals to other campus resources and services as necessary. Coaches will also take on projects that help to facilitator the advising, tutoring and other academic support services in the Filene Center. Minimum Qualifications The position includes a two week training session in mid-August, followed by participation in the CORE Orientation Programs and then 10-15 hours per week of services during each semester. For each semester, positions begin two weeks prior to each semester and end with the last day of finals each semester. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree and be in (or accepted into) a graduate program at a local college or university. Candidates must have strong interest in student development, ability to work collaboratively. In addition, successful candidates will also have experience in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and/or counseling.
