Graduate Intern Position Description
The Colleges of the Fenway (COF) is a consortium of six colleges in the Fenway neighborhood in Boston:
Wheelock College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Simmons College, Massachusetts College of
Pharmacy and Health Sciences University, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and Emmanuel
College.
The Global Education Opportunities (GEO) Center works with Directors of International Programs, study abroad and international student advisors, and international admissions personnel at our member colleges to support international initiatives on their campuses. By providing support for collaborative efforts and shared resources, we hope to enhance the colleges’ global outreach and COF students’ ability to function effectively in a global environment.
Position Description:
The GEO Center is offering an exciting graduate internship opportunity for someone who is technically savvy, has experience with international education, and seeks to jump-start a career in a dynamic collaborative of six campuses with unique opportunities for learning about this profession.
This 10-month position is ideal for an individual interested in learning about the technical aspects of study abroad and international student data management, international student regulations and services, working with staff to support and promote education abroad, planning programming for international education, marketing events and opportunities, and evaluating effectiveness.
Hours: Generally Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00 (some flexibility to accommodate class schedules if needed); occasional evenings for events such as pre-departure orientations. The GEO Center is closed on national and state holidays.
Position dates: August 1, 2016 – May 31, 2017 (dates are negotiable)
Responsibilities performed under close supervision and with guidance from the Director and Assistant
Director will include, but are not limited to:

Assist with the maintenance and administration of the online TerraDotta database system.
Daily administrative duties such as doing research; collecting, analyzing and reporting on data; participating in office meetings; preparing materials for events; keeping detailed records; assisting with office functions; monitoring various office email accounts and responding to student inquiries.

Plan and implement GEO Center events including the study abroad fairs, pre-departure orientations, and other international events for students, faculty and staff.

Create marketing materials to promote study abroad programs and international events.
Be a member of and take minutes at meetings of the GEO Center committees with administrators from all six colleges, including the International Student Admission and
Advising Committee and the Study Abroad Council.

Provide support and assistance to international student advisors; assist with orientations, workshops, projects and programs for international students.

Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in a graduate program at time of internship
Experience working in a college or university setting
Must be able to work occasional evenings
Computer skills - Required: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Preferred: WordPress/web design, HTML, MS Access, Adobe Creative Suite,
TerraDotta (StudioAbroad)
Strong desire to want to learn about database development
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented
Experience conducting research, collecting and analyzing data, and writing reports
Strong interpersonal skills
Creativity and flexibility
Experience abroad
Self-directed and self-motivated
Customer service experience

Summary of Internship:
•
10 months of multi-faceted involvement in a full service international education office serving six urban colleges in Boston
•
Modest monthly stipend of $1000 to offset expenses incurred, including tuition, books, meals, transportation and parking
•
Partial expenses paid to attend a regional or national conference on international education
(such as NAFSA or the Forum on Education Abroad)
