Painting Workshops Catholic Charities: Bayside Senior Center Course Beata Szpura, Painting I, Department of Art and Design Overview Students teach basic painting skills to senior citizens at Bayside Senior Center Course Objectives Students will learn: • to compose and fully execute a painting • how to mix colors • how to communicate using specific fine arts terminology • about different personal approaches to painting and personal artistic interpretation. • how art plays an important role in the lives of the seniors and how contact with art/creating art enhances their lives. Interests of Partner Bayside Senior Center needs stimulating and original recreational activities for members. Activity Students go to the Senior Center three times, each time conducting a 2-hour painting lesson. Students teach basic painting skills, sketching skills, how to mix colors, and how to compose a painting. The art works are completed over the course of the three sessions. Seniors choose between painting a vase of flowers or a portrait.
