Justice Debbie Mortimer, Federal Court of Australia Her Honour will speak on the assistance that Federal Court judges look for from advocates in judicial review matters, and the aspects of the judicial review process that lawyers need to focus on in preparing a case for hearing. Peter Hanks QC, Victorian Bar Mr Hanks will speak on two short case studies in judicial review: (1) a challenge to the licensing of commercial radio broadcasting; and (2) a challenge to the Tax Office’s power to demand information from an Australian bank. Emily Nance, Senior Executive Lawyer, Australian Government Solicitor Ms Nance will speak on judicial review in the Federal Court: the ADJR Act and the Judiciary Act, s 39B; why use one or the other or both; what outcome the Federal Court can deliver under those Acts; what decisions are (or are not) reviewable.
