THE FRANK “BING” SIMPSON MAINTENANCE AWARD :
This award is presented annually to the Second or Third Class Midshipman who
distinguished himself as the best engineer. Items considered as a basis for this
award include periodic maintenance checks, cleanliness of the sail training craft
and the administrative accuracy of engineering logs and records. The award is
dedicated in memory of Frank Simpson – known as Bing to his friends. Bing
graduated with the Class of 1948 and was a lifelong sailor. He served on the
Academy’s Fales Committee, which is a board who advise the Superintendent on
the effectiveness of Academy’s Sailing Program and also served as the President
of the Naval Academy Sailing Foundation for eight years.
THE FRANK “BING” SIMPSON MAINTENANCE AWARD is presented to the
outstanding Midshipman for their outstanding performance in support of OSTS
maintenance during their SAILTRAMID summer block.
