Graduate Fellowships The College of Social and Behavioral Science has a few opportunities for graduate student funding. Below is a brief overview of these scholarships, including application process and deadlines. All graduate students are eligible to be considered for funding (no stipulation for first year students, Utah residents, etc.) MARTIN HARRIS HIATT Applications: Students applying for the Hiatt Fellowship must apply on the generic scholarship application form found at: http://csbs.utah.edu/students/scholarships/index.php Scroll down towards the bottom of the page and click on the red “apply now” link. Each applicant is required to include a 500 word essay telling a little about their background, course of study and reasons why they should be considered for the scholarship. Two letters of recommendation are required for each applicant. One, at least, must be from an academic source, preferably someone in the department of their major. Deadline: 1 March 2016 at 4pm. (letters of recommendation should also have been received by this time) Amount: usually from $6,500 HERBERT W. (letters of recommendation should also have been received by this time) Selection: The main criteria for this scholarship is that it be awarded to a "graduate student pursuing quantitative study of human social behavior." The Hiatt committee also reviews nominations for the Gustafson scholarship. Amount: from $6,500 per year CSBS DEAN’S GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP Selection: Each department is given one scholarship, to award to a student of their choice. Departments notify the college of their decision. Deadline for notifying CSBS is March 1, 2016 @ 4 PM. Each Honor Roll scholarship recipient is required to write a thank you letter to their scholarship donor at the beginning of each semester. Amount: $4,000 per year Once selected, all of the recipients are notified of their award with a letter from the college and then process the paperwork for their payment. The scholarship is managed by the Scholarship Office. After the last day to drop classes their registration is verified, and then they receive half of the payment at the beginning of each semester credited against their student fees.
