Foxes in the Community
The dogs had no problem playing ball when members of the
Men’s Baseball team worked the Catcher’s Mutt booth at
the Dutchess County SPCA 20th Annual Paws in the
Park Petwalk. The team spent the afternoon tossing
balls to the excited and eager dogs in Bowdoin Park. Prizes
were awarded for the number of balls caught. Amazing
dogs and a fun day for everyone!

The Men’s Baseball and Women’s Softball teams hosted a
Badges for Baseball event with players of the Town of
Poughkeepsie Cal Ripken / Babe Ruth Baseball League. Besides
organized ball activities, they also spent time answering questions about the different aspects of college life including course
load, clubs, and extracurricular activities.

Members of Men’s football team participated in the annual Dutchess ARC
(Advocacy, Respect, Community) Picnic. Members of the team served food, chatted with attendees and assisted with games and clean up. Dutchess ARC is a non-profit
agency that has been serving children and adults with developmental disabilities and
their families in Dutchess County since 1971. The mission of Dutchess ARC is to challenge
and empower people with developmental disabilities, their families and staff to achieve

Caylin Moore
MAJOR: Economics
POSITION: Football - Quarterback
YEAR: Junior
HOMETOWN: Los Angeles, CA
When Caylin Moore arrived on campus for his official
visit, he immediately left an impression on Marist coaches and administrators. It was clear he had prepared for
this visit as if it was a job interview and he was going to
use the time to gather all of the information he could
about the place he wanted to spend the next four years of his life. On his second day
on campus, Caylin announced his dreams and goals proudly and with confidence,
expressed his desire to achieve greatness in everything he did. By the end of his
freshman year, he had earned a 3.75 cumulative GPA, a remarkable accomplishment
for any Economics major, let alone one who was balancing the high demands of
football, the academic rigor of his program, and being nearly 3,000 miles from home.
After a second successful year at Marist, earning a 3.8 cumulative GPA, Caylin was
awarded an incredible opportunity. He became the first Marist undergraduate to be
awarded the prestigious US-UK Fulbright Summer Institute Scholarship. Caylin
traveled to the University of Bristol and studied in the UK for four weeks. During
this experience, he participated in an archaeological dig at Berkeley Castle, visited the
Roman Baths, and took a History course titled, “Transatlantic Slave Trade.” Upon
his return, Caylin was officially recognized by the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors,
as well as Carson City Councilman, Mike Gibson for his achievements in the UK.
Caylin’s teammates say on the field, as well as off, he is “dedicated,” “driven,”
“ambitious,” and even “hilarious.” He is always the first to volunteer for community
service and has assisted with the Dutchess ARC, Town of Wappingers St. Patrick’s
Day Parade, Special Olympics, Take Back the Night and the White Ribbon Campaign. He is committed to making the world a better place, hoping to eventually
work in public service helping to improve our nation’s educational system. It is
evident that Caylin’s experiences, accomplishments, and outreach have touched the
lives of many, from California to New York and now, to England. Most people
would be satisfied with achieving all of this in their first two years of college, but for
Caylin, this is only the beginning of his magnificent journey, and we are honored to
be a small part of it.
Michelle Gaye
MAJOR: Business - Finance
POSITION: XC / Track - Distance
YEAR: Senior
HOMETOWN: Greenlawn, NY
A team captain for the 2014 – 2015 season,
Michelle is known for her teamwork, leadership and
athletic ability. On and off the trail or track,
Michelle quickly established herself as a hard
working student-athlete. She is a two time MAAC
Runner of the Week, on the MAAC All-Academic and Dean’s lists, Target
Case Competition winning team in 2014, IBM Case Competition 2013 team
participant, and the Community Service Coordinator for the Women’s
Cross Country and Track Teams. A Business Administration major with a
concentration in Finance, Michelle has had numerous summer internships
in the business world. In June, Michelle attended the NCAA Career in
Sports Forum at NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. The forum is an
annual three-day conference designed to learn and explore potential careers
in sports, with the primary focus on intercollegiate athletics. The goal is to
assist student-athletes in charting their career paths, to give them the
opportunity to network and to learn from current athletics professionals.
Michelle summed up her experience at the Career in Sports Forum by
stating, “I left Indianapolis with a better understanding of myself, my career
aspirations, and strategies to put my vision into action.” Pete Colaizzo,
Director of Men and Women’s Cross Country/Track and Field says,
“Michelle epitomizes what it means to be a student-athlete; she is involved in
all aspects of the Marist community and she has made a positive impact
wherever she has been.” Michelle is also an active volunteer in various
community service events and has participated in the Girl Scouts Sports
Sampler, read books to children at Hagan Elementary, and assisted with the
Run for Home 5K at the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie. Michelle has
definitely made the most of her time at Marist and we know she will have
some tremendous opportunities upon graduation in May.
