WASHINGTON EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (WELA) REPORT Cindy Hough, WELA Executive Director, provided the WELA annual report to WACTC. She thanked WACTC for its support and announced recruitment is underway for the 2014-15 cohort. She spoke about the cohort’s diversity and asked for suggestions on how to improve representation of people of color in WELA. NORTHWEST ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY COLLEGES (NWAACC) REPORT Marco Azurdia, NWAACC Executive Director, announced Big Bend Community College and Walla Walla Community College were awarded the 2013 President’s Cup, which honors academic achievement of athletics. He also discussed the Inter-local Agency Agreement he asked all presidents to sign regarding formalizing NWAAC. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION: It was moved and seconded that WACTC approves the December 19, 2013 minutes without corrections. MOTION PASSED. TREASURER’S REPORT Ed Brewster presented the WACTC Treasurer’s Report with an ending balance of $79,069.51 as of January 17, 2014. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT – Jill Wakefield, WACTC president • WACTC Summer Retreat – July 16-18, 2014, hosted by Grays Harbor College • Approval of WACTC’s $500 support for the February 20, 2014 Legislative Open House • Response to the U.S. Department of Education’s request for information to assist in its efforts to develop a Postsecondary Institution Rating System • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) Financial Audit Update • Conversation with Karen Strickland, AFT-WA president, about faculty compensation and HB 1348 (allowing bargaining for local funds) • American Association of Community College (AACC) o Presidents Academy Summer Institute, July 19-22, 2014, Napa Valley, California o Support for Luke Robins’ election to the Board of Directors January 21, 2014 2 EDUCATIONAL SERVICES COMMITTEE REPORT – Kathi Hiyane-Brown, chair • Applied Baccalaureate Degree Program Discussion Bill Christopher, Cascadia former president, led a discussion on the Applied Baccalaureate Degree Program. He presented the results of the survey conducted by the committee to gain a broad range of perspectives and ideas from WACTC. The results and feedback from the discussion will be used to develop a series of policy statements for consideration at a future meeting.
