Library Leadership Council Report to Instruction Commission
Winter 2016
Outcome 1. Increase student access to information through implementation of ALMA/PRIMO
Goals
1. 1 Begin implementation of Alma in Fall, 2015, ensuring
that as much pre-implementation information as possible
is provided to all cohorts
1.2 Support change management efforts such as moving
from a task-based system to a workflow system, and
moving from database searching to federated searching
1.3 Support informal, inter-institutional project
communication channel that complements the formal
project communication plan
1.4 Provide LLC directors regular project update talking
points prepared for campus leadership
Progress
1. Cohort One has completed the pre-implementation stage and
is on track.
2. Ex Libris has assigned Cohort one to a new project manager,
Dolph Chaney, who will supervise the implementation.
3. All but one library has paid its fees and we have $242,000 in
the bank. Ex Libris will be billing SBCTC soon.
4. Cohort Two will now begin pre-implementation work.
These items continue to be discussed.
1. A Canvas site has been created to support project
communication.
2. The Governance Committee voted to add Tim Fuhrman at Big
Bend as an ex officio member since he has fiscal responsibility
with the library consortium services manager reporting to
him.
1. A report on the project was given to LLC Directors at the
Winter meeting on January 29, 2016.
2. A biweekly update from this point forward is planned.
Outcome 2. Achieve greater efficiency and enhanced access to content and services through the creation of a
Washington Community and Technical College library consortium
Goals
2.1 Confer with SBCTC staff on legalities of consortial
formation and operation
Progress
Dave Stolier in the AG’s office reviewed the bylaws and provided
his feedback.
2.2 Development of consortial by-laws and distribute draft
to LLC membership 60 days prior to fall meeting for
discussion and potential adoption
1. The Library Consortium Services Manager position was posted
and the committee has four applicants to review.
2. The draft bylaws were sent to the LLC members for comment
on December 29, 2015. Comments have been received and
incorporated as appropriate.
3. The workgroup will now develop an interlocal agreement.
Tabled until the bylaws are completed.
2.3 Brainstorm list of potential next projects
Outcome 3. Improve student outcomes by identifying metrics that demonstrate the connection between
information literacy and student success
Goals
3.1 Review and synthesize existing research, especially
PILR and ACRL Assessment in Action
Progress
A Canvas site was created in order to collect and review relevant
research.
3.2 Survey LLC to gather input on existing approaches and
strategies being used across the state
A short survey is being developed to determine existence of
student learning outcomes at campus and library levels, as well as
assessment strategies for these outcomes. It will be sent out to
LLC this Winter.
3.3 Develop a roadmap of recommended approaches,
strategies, and practices for collecting data
This will be developed after the survey results are analyzed.
3.4 Develop a mechanism to collect common data across
colleges and recruit pilot colleges to participate
This will be developed after the survey results are analyzed.
3.5 Share findings with LLC, IC, and other groups
Findings will be shared after the pilot is complete.
Outcome 4. Save students money by advancing the use of Open Educational Resources
Goal
4.1 Collaborate and communicate regularly with groups
interested in supporting LLC’s OER initiatives such as
CLAMS and eLC
Progress
There will be an OER conference/workshop this spring.
4.2 Support and encourage librarians engaged in the
CLAMS/LLC OER grant, “Librarians as Open Leaders”
(LOEL)
4.3 Document and share LOEL grant deliverables with the
Instruction Commission
Quill West will be presenting about LOEL at the Open Ed
Consortium conference in Poland in April.
1. LOEL awarded 16 collaborative mini-grants.
2. LOEL also awarded three additional planning mini-grants.
