Conversion of freeboard to thickness
Conversion of measured sea ice
freeboard heights (F) into
ice thicknesses (T) depends on:
- Snowdepth
- Density of the ice, water and snow
The snowdepth and density changes locally
and can be determined from:
- Climatic Models
- In Situ measurements (e.g. by drilling)
- Coincident draft and surface measurements
(AUV/ULS/EM versus laser)
