Preface
The forest products industries are indebted to the many journals published in the United States which serve through reporting current developments.
Keeping abreast of new ideas in equipment, process, product, merchandising, ,and utilization at today's rapid rate of change is an arduous task.
It must be done if the wood industries are to continue to show progress.
An index similar to this was first issued in 1957; copies have been exhausted through heavy request. The Forest Products Department at Oregon State
University makes use of such a reference index in certain courses. This
publication is a compilation of these yearly indices for 1957, 1958, and 1959.
Articlesare indexed under subject headings as noted in the table of contents.
The veneer and plywood industry has been included in this issue. A code to
the six journals cited is provided.
It is recognized there are other journals performing a service, i.e. Wood
Digest, Pulp and Paper, American Lumberman, etc. To include all of these in
a single index would be a tremendous undertaking. Local libraries have periodical indices which are more inclusive; Journal of Forestry and Forest Products
Journal each include in December issues an index of articles published during
the calendar year.
As a handy reference guide to a few of the more widely distributed journals, it is believed this index will prove of value to the forest products in-S
dustrjes and to educational institutions.
This printing was made possible
through severance tax funds provided
by the forest industry in Oregon.
