COURSE DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES: The focus of this course is the study of systems, and the principles of systems analysis and design. This course introduces you to organizational systems analysis and design, and presents ideas that provide powerful insights about a large spectrum of analysis and design issues. This course aims to give you a feeling for the problems and techniques of systems analysis and design, and the application of such techniques to real life business analysis problems. 5. STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: • You are expected to have read carefully the assigned portion of the book prior to coming to class; most of the class time will be devoted to the discussion of applications and extensions of the material in the book. • You are expected to complete all assignments. • You are expected to attend class and participate. There will be material covered in lectures that will be on the midterms and final that may not be in the book or published class notes. If you are unable to attend a class, please get notes from one of your classmates. • Solutions to problems may not be “copied” and “pasted” from external sources. The purpose of the assignments is not to find a solution on the Internet. If you do find some useful information on the web or from another source it should be referenced! Evidence of cheating in any form will be met with serious punishment including formal channels at the University level. 6. GRADING POLICY: • Tentative allocation of points. Depending on time available I may remove or alter these assignments. In the event that this happens, those points will simply be subtracted from the total available for the class o Homework: 100 (5 homeworks at 20 points each) o Midterm #1: 100 o Midterm #2: 100 o Quizzes: 100 (4 quizzes at 25 points each) o Project 150 o Final Exam 150 • Grading Scale: A = 93-100, A- = 90-92, B+ = 87-89, B = 83-86, B- = 8082, C+ = 77-79, C = 73-76, C- = 70-72, D = 65-69, E = under 65. The assignments are to be submitted to Carmen prior to the beginning of the class session that it is due. No late assignments will be accepted - no exceptions. 9.
