NISG 2016 BUDGETARY PROCESS Meeting Agenda ■ Introductions ■ Student Organization Registration ■ Immediate Funding Sources ■ Budgetary Process ■ Questions Introductions Abbie Shew Director of Administration and Finance Northern Iowa Student Government Meghan Busswitz Director of Student Organizations and Involvement Northern Iowa Student Government Pam Creger Secretary Student involvement Center Organization and Finance Committee Members Chair – Aaron Friel Vice Chair – Rylee Junk Student Organization Registration ■ To apply for budgetary process funding, you must be an NISG recognized student organization ■ To become a registered student organization, go to this link ■ To check your registration status, go to this website Immediate Funding Sources ■ Can be applied for throughout the school year by student organizations who need funds for events that were not budgeted for ■ Contingency ■ Pepsi Fund (No funds remaining) ■ Diversity Matters (No funds remaining) ■ Intercollegiate Academic Fund (No funds remaining) All applications are available on the NISG website Budgetary Process Every Spring semester, NISG holds a budgetary process where student organizations can request funds for multiple events and/or large sums of money for their organization to use throughout the upcoming year ■ Funds will not be available until July 1 NISG’s preference is that organizations apply for funds through the budgetary process ■ Helps with program longevity ■ Allows for funding convenience for student organizations ■ Access to more money! Difference between budgetary and contingency Dates to Know ■ Monday, February 8 at 8:00am application becomes available ■ Friday, February 26 at 5:00pm applications are due – NO LATE APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED ■ February 29 – March 4, hearing sign-ups ■ March 7 – 11, 5:00-8:00pm budget hearings ■ April 11 – 15, notification of funding allocations How to Apply ■ Application is available on the NISG website under the Student Organization Funding tab – Link here Before applying, thoroughly read through all guidelines Complete the application in full including an itemized spreadsheet to calculate requested amounts Sign up for and attend a hearing Itemized Spreadsheet Budget Hearings Reasons for hearings ■ Gives student organizations an opportunity to provide supplemental information to the committee ■ Allows the committee to ask any clarifying questions Failure to attend a hearing will result in automatic denial of funding 15 minute time slot per organization What is funded Shortlist ■ Developmental and educational events ■ Programming that generally provides a service to the student body ■ Publicity for programs that are open to the entire student body What is not funded Shortlist ■ Recruitment ■ Food, drink, and other food related items ■ Organizations that receive funding from the Student Service Fee ■ Fundraisers in which requested funds will be directly donated ■ Activities directly related to job-seeking ■ Activities not open to the whole student body Other Tips ■ There is no save button on the application so it’s best to complete the whole thing in one sitting ■ The more information, the better – The committee wants to see as many details as possible including date, time, location, etc. ■ Follow last year’s funding guidelines in your request Allocation announcements ■ Notifications of funding are emailed directly to student organization leaders ■ Allocation, deferment, and denial will all be explained Deferral ■ Funding that generally meets our guidelines but cannot be allocated at this time ■ Can re-apply for the same amount through the contingency fund Contact information Email shewa@uni.edu or nisg@uni.edu Office phone (319) 273-3394 Individual appointments available upon request Pam Creger pamela.creger@uni.edu Office phone (319) 273-2683 Questions?
