Appointment of Tristan Bernhard to Deputy Speaker VII Special Business 1. Guest speaker: Katie Evans­ Womens Center on Campus. a. Draft for future plan of Womens Center and resources. Healthy and safety tab on myuniverse for resources. Public safety website will be updated over summer to be more user friendly. Students want a sexual assault awareness advocate on campus. Addresses importance of having advocate in centralized spot campus. 2. Guest Speaker: Jim Wohlpart – Provost ● ● a. University getting accredidated in 2021. i. Analysis and revision of LAC ii. Focus on diversity and inclusion iii. Civic engagement. Rosel­ What is timeline of process? o 2­3 years Flesch­ Would change in LAC affect length in programs? o Revision of LAC would have feedback and parameters. Capstone and cornerstone are unique compared to other universities ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Bernhard­ Diversity exit requirement and LAC pairing o Great thing and will happen at some point. Faculty need to embrace LAC. Keeping working on that requirement. Whats being worked on least? o Revision of LAC. Challenging thing to do and having faculty trust. Pacheco­ What else is involved in proposal? o Diversity action plan is broader scope of proposal. Will happen most likely in fall once positions are filled. o Haven’t had plan for out of state students, need comprehensive plan Evans­ More writing intensive classes? o UNI is behind other universities Flesch­ Recommends second proposal..most impactful. Campus needs more diversity and inclusive. Would have a more immediate impact. Bernhard­ Do you see value in what were doing to picking proposal? o Wont affect it, continue with what you’re doing Pacheco­ supports second proposal Friel­ Describe assessments with each proposal o Committee would develop that. All need to be qualitative and quantitative o Emphasizes importance of education and growth, can’t focus solely on inclusion when coming to campus. Spreading out learning and overlap of information/learning in classes Bernhard­ Certificate program for diversity program plausible? o Absolutely plausible. Need support from students and embraced by faculty. Met with ISU and UI student gov on Diversity, Mental Health, and Sexual Assault. Looking to have student rep on City Council. Student Health accreditation meeting went well. Counseling center will offer programming going into Mental Health week. Wants event planning over summer. Chief diversity officer presenting this week. State is leaning toward incremental tuition increase. Johnson: Working on new advisor(s)­ Bob Frederick and another one. Also working on expectations for advisor position. Highlight from Regents meeting was meeting other state student government leaders. 2000 freshman enrolled at UNI in Fall 2015. Room and board voted to increase. NISG is on snapchat. Working on director of stability position next year. ● Massey: will return late June. Working on transitioning to position. ● Rosel: Base budget increase by $2.78 mil. Met with Iowa Sec of State to push more voter registration for upcoming election with new website. ● Miranda: Panther Bash was a success. Met with Mental Health week committee. Will start updating NISG website. Met with Connie Hansen and CATS on Panther Fridays. Like Facebook page and follow on snapchat. Summer orientation tabling signup. ● Majeed: Working on transition with position and university leaders. CME can play bigger role on campus and increasing awareness. X Reports of the Standing Committees 1. Organization and Finance – Oliverio a. Met with PAWS. Org is doing well 2. External Relations – Drew a. Committee hasn’t met yet. Wants to increase voter turnout in Nov. 3. Campus Relations – Tristan a. Established goals: Certificate for diversity, diversity exit requirement, assisting with mental health requirement. 4.
