K. Curtis. Due to it's renowned cover art, stories, news on current events, and humor, the magazine quickly became a success from 1899 to the 1950's. With the rise of televison, the magazine experienced a decline in readership, which resulted in an eventual halt to publication from 1969 to 1971. In 1971, under the leadership of a new owner, the magazine re-emerged with a focus on health and medical breakthroughs by the Benjamin Franklin Literary & Medical Society. Scope and Contents This collection consists of original illustrations for cartoons that appeared in the The Saturday Evening Post magazine circa 1945-1961. Also included is an undated Peanuts cartoon that is not original and likely was not printed in the magazine. Arrangement Collection is unarranged.
