Historical Note
The Saturday Evening Post, a descendant of Benjamin Franklin's Pennsylvania Gazette, was first
published in it's modern form in 1897 when the magazine was purchazed by magazine publisher Cyrus
H. K. Curtis. Due to it's renowned cover art, stories, news on current events, and humor, the magazine
quickly became a success from 1899 to the 1950's. With the rise of televison, the magazine experienced
a decline in readership, which resulted in an eventual halt to publication from 1969 to 1971. In 1971,
under the leadership of a new owner, the magazine re-emerged with a focus on health and medical
breakthroughs by the Benjamin Franklin Literary & Medical Society.
