Jan 3, 2012 11:42 AM 5 How to Inspire Others: students, co-workers Jan 3, 2012 11:31 AM 6 I think there should be a Professional Development Fund for each department to use to send its staff members to area/job specific conferences and workshops. I feel I am not encouraged to attend off campus workshops, conferences, or other job specific gatherings, because my department can not afford to send me to them. If a company (or University) looks to hire the best person for a job, they do not just hire the best person at the time and hope that they stay the best. They hire the best person and help that person develop professionally by providing opportunities and funding. Jan 3, 2012 11:21 AM 7 The trainings I attend must be approved by the boards that recertify my licensure and certifications. I certainly benefit from trainings that have not been certified, but the time dedicated to them cannot be applied to my recertifcation. Dec 31, 2011 11:55 AM 8 I feel we have plenty of opportunity on campus. I also feel that some our our units are so specialized that more financial support is needed to meet the need for travel to topic specific or specialized training. Dec 30, 2011 3:57 PM 9 more importance on prof. development within our personal field and our dept. paying for it. More opportunities to network within the specific field we are in. Allowing more travel money and networking to keep up on the trends. Dec 20, 2011 12:15 PM 10 Would like to see discussions by staff and experts in the fields of: organizational skills, time management, etc., where an expert would discuss day to day operations with a functional area to determine needs and assessment of the efficiency of the operations. This would involve looking for opportunities to improve functionality and efficiency. Would also encourage the administration to be looking at details of spending within departments with monitoring of needs and wants to encourage thriftiness in budgets and transparency. Dec 19, 2011 10:20 AM 11 Membership in professional organizations and opportunities for new professionals to engage in professional organizations and associations Dec 16, 2011 5:10 PM 12 Further training in my specific field, for example, technical training on a specific software product or technology concept. Also, additional collaboration with other departments to bring training to campus, either as a host for a variety of other institutions to come visit or in some sort of distance education concept. Dec 16, 2011 4:42 PM 13 As merit we don't get the opportunity to go to regional conferences and there are LOTS of good topics/discussions that are presented at regional and national conferences.
