Bulletin Overview
Avocent MergePoint™ Service Processor Managers (SPMs) allow IT organizations to streamline data center management and reduce operational costs by leveraging the service processor technologies already present in their servers.
The SPM family consists of two model platforms, each positioned for a specific purpose.
•The SPM 5300 model for logical (customer network centric) aggregation and management of SPs.
•The SPM 5324/40 models for physical connectivity and management of SPs.
The following conditions apply:
•As of March 11, 2011 the SPM 5300 will go end-of-life (EOL) due to obsolescence of the base hardware platform.
•As of March 11, 2011 no new shipments will be processed unless stock is depleted at an earlier date.
•No new orders are being accepted for the SPM 5300 product.
The recommended replacements are the SPM 5324 or SPM 5340 products. The SPM 5324/40 supports management of SPs in both a physical
and logical manner. The primary functional difference between the two platforms is the SPM 5324/40 is limited to managing a total of 64
SPs. To increase the scale of managed SPs, multiple SPM 5324/40s can be deployed. The SPM 5324/40 is an extremely versatile management
appliance that provides data center administrators with the benefits of easily associating logically to existing infrastructure while providing
physical security capabilities for future growth.
