GRADE 4 LESSON 2
Procedures:
SAY: Today we are going to talk about different ways you can begin to make your own money,
if you have not already started. We will discuss the importance of earning your own money,
how working can be a valuable learning experience, and how this can help you be more
responsible.
Activity
1. Instructor say: School is your main job now. What are some of the responsibilities you
have as a student? (Be on time, do your best, do homework, come to school, etc.)
2. The Instructor will go to http://pbskids.org/itsmylife/money/index.html
and read with the class Making Money. (You can have the students read aloud or the
instructor can read aloud.)
3. After reading that page with the class, click on Why Should You Work and read aloud
with class. At the end of that page click on Star at Home and read aloud with the class.
4. Continue reading to the bottom of the page and click on Get the OK to Branch Out and
continue reading as a class.
5. After reading that page, click on the Making Money Quiz icon to the right of the passage.
As a class, take the quiz.
6. Instructor will then give each student Handout #1- IML Journal Page from
http://pbskids.org/itsmylife/journal/makingmoney_journal.html
and put into small groups and have them work collaboratively to complete their journals.
After several minutes, discuss as a large group so the students can benefit from hearing
various ideas from each other.
