UPDATE PORTFOLIO GRADE 10 LESSON 23 Time Required: 30-45 minutes Content Standards: AA.S.1 Students will acquire attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the lifespan. Indicators (Students will…): AA.A.10.1.08 Update portfolio to include extra-curricular activities and community services. GOAL: Students will update portfolio with new information including: updated unofficial transcripts, test scores, extra-curricular activities, and work and volunteer work experience. Activity Statements: Students will review the contents of their portfolios and update it using lesson handouts as a guide. Materials: 1. Career Portfolio format for each student. This may be within a computer program or a format created by the instructor. 2. Portfolio example(s) – real or fabricated. 3. Handout 1 – LINKS Portfolio Planner 4. Handout 2 – Building Your Portfolio 5. Three Year Plan 6. Other school specific handouts for recording work experience and community service Procedures: 1. Students will review the “Building Your Portfolio” handout for a comprehensive list of items the student will accumulate in portfolio throughout high school. 2. Students will inventory the list of items in their portfolio, checking off items in their personal portfolio 3. Students will secure any missing information from the appropriate persons including: Updated un official transcripts – school counselor Copies of all grade 9 & 10 test scores – school counselor Work record – employer UPDATE PORTFOLIO GRADE 10 LESSON 23 Community Service Record – community agency Learning Styles Survey – LINKS advisor Goals Letter – student should review and chart progress Co and Extra-curricular activities – update with all 9th & 10 grade school, community clubs, sports, church activities, etc. Awards or other certificates: Make note of any items not included in portfolio to add next week. 4. Students will update LINKS Portfolio Planner (Handout 1). Provide all relevant information for grades 9 & 10. This paper copy should be kept for easy access as a backup for electronic portfolio. 5. Student will review sophomore checklist and check off activities completed and make plans to complete activities that could not be checked off. 6. Students will review Three-Year Plan and update with any changes in academic and career plans. Discussion: What is missing from your portfolio? Where can you locate it? What items have you not completed on your 10th grade checklist? On a scale of 1 – 10 with 1 being incomplete and 10 being very complete, how complete is your 10th grade portfolio? Additional Resources: None Extension Activities: Make a copy of portfolio and sophomore checklist. Discuss with parents what you need to do to complete your 10th grade portfolio. Activity: Have students fill out the Experiences and Activities section of their Portfolio.
