How to encrypt Adobe Acrobat X All documents and projects can be encrypted with a password in Adobe Acrobat X in just a few steps. The steps below describe this process. 1. Click “Tools” in the top right corner 2. Click “Protection” from the drop down menu 3. Click “Encrypt” and then “Encrypt with Password” from its drop down menu 4. If a window appears asking “Are you sure you want to change the security on this document” then click yes 5. When the Password Security window appears set your desired compatibility (Which versions of Adobe will be able to open this document) and make sure that the “Encrypt all document contents” box is checked 6. Check the “Require a password to open the document” box and enter your password in the illuminated field. 7. Press “OK” and confirm your password in the window that appears. 8. Be sure to save your document. Users will now be prompted for a password before they can access the document. To unencrypt and remove the password, follow the above steps like before, except when prompted to enter a password, delete and leave the password box blank, then press OK.
