Biographical Note / Historical Note / Administrative History The Sue Drexa Smith Memorial Concerts were established by Miss Eleanor Smith and her sister Mrs. Myron Gray of Muncie in 1936 as a memorial to their sister who died in Prague in 1907 while studying the violin. The original series of concerts was discontinued in 1970. The concerts were resumed in 1974 after the death of Eleanor Smith and a large donation from her estate was set aside to continue the concerts. The series brought well known European and American ensembles to play at Ball State. Scope and Contents This collection includes programs, news releases, and promotional materials from Ball State Univeristy and Emens Auditorium ranging from 1936 to 1990 regarding concerts held in honor of the memory of Sue Derexa Smith.
