PRESS ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION CONTACT: Denise Pacheco, Clerk of Court (915) 546-2240 First Female Appointed Chief Justice of the 8th Court of Appeals Justice Ann Crawford McClure has been appointed Chief Justice of the Texas Eighth Court of Appeals in El Paso effective October 12. She will become the first female chief justice and will serve as the 14th chief justice in the court’s 100 year history. Justice McClure was elected to the Eighth Court of Appeals and took the bench on January 1, 1995. She graduated magna cum laude from Texas Christian University in 1975 and received her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 1979. A past chair of the Appellate Section, Family Law Section, and Appellate Division of the Judicial Section of the State Bar of Texas, McClure has also served as president of both the El Paso Bar Association and the Trans-Pecos Bar Association. She currently chairs the Texas Center for the Judiciary Judicial Education Committee. McClure has been selected as jurist of the year by the Texas Bar Foundation, the El Paso Chapter of the Mexican American Bar Association, and the Texas Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She is a recipient of the Professionalism Award from the Texas Center of Legal Ethics and Professionalism, the Sam Emison Award from the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, the Gene Cavin Award from the State Bar of Texas, the Dan Price Award from the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, and the Sarah T. Hughes Award from the Women and the Law Section of the State Bar. Justice McClure was also presented with the Distinguished Alumnus Award by Texas Christian University and the Civil Rights Award from the El Paso Local Chapter of the NAACP. She and her husband, attorney David McClure, have two children.
