Administrative History
In the fall of 1993, a group of human service providers and other concerned persons from the community
decided to make a formal commitment to combat the problem of child abuse and neglect by focusing on
preventative measures. This group had been active in planning and supporting Open Door community
Services efforts to obtain grant funds to begin a Healthy Families Indiana program in Delaware County.
This collaboration process among individuals was the “seeding” for the formal charter of the local Child
Abuse Prevention Council.
The Delaware County Child Abuse Prevention Council is an active council with many community
events, support, and commitment of agencies and individuals in working to help children. The purpose
of the Delaware County Child Abuse Prevention Council is to prevent child abuse in all of its forms in
Delaware County through a county commitment that is comprehensive and broad based. Their mission
and philosophy is organized on the belief that no child should be abused or neglected.
Scope and Contents
This collection includes reports, promotional material, educational material, minutes, correspondence,
newspapers, etc. from the Delaware County chapter of the Prevent Child Abuse Council ranging from
1993 to 2009.

Scope and Contents
This series includes a large number of oversized newspaper articles from the Delaware County Child
Abuse Prevention Council in Delaware County ranging from 1996 to 2004. Some of these articles
are from the Indianapolis Star titled, "Roxanne`s Story" that was published throughout the year of
1997. This newspaper series documents the life of a young woman who, by the time she turned 18, had
faced three crisis pregnancies. Other oversized newspaper articles feature the Child Abuse Prevention
Council`s workshops, conferences, and advertising in regard to the overall community.
