GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICIULUM (GEC-R) COURSES
The Ohio State University’s General Education Curriculum (GEC) is an integral part of your undergraduate business
education. The General Education Curriculum is designed to provide you with a better understanding of society’s traditions
and past, accomplishments and aspirations, relation to and responsibility for the natural world, diversity and plurality, and
problems and needs. The goal of the GEC is aimed at helping you develop skills, competencies, and breadth of knowledge
to become educated, productive citizens. For updates to this GEC list, contact your academic advisor or visit fisher.osu.edu.
Each course may be used to fulfill only one category except for Social Diversity when appropriate.

WRITING AND RELATED SKILLS:
Writing and Related Skills coursework helps you develop skills in written communication and expression, reading,
critical thinking, and oral expression.
Complete ONE course each from Part A, B, and C.

QUANTITATIVE AND LOGICAL SKILLS:
Courses in Quantitative and Logical Skills develop your quantitative literacy and logical reasoning, including the
ability to identify valid arguments, use mathematical models, and draw conclusions and critically evaluate results based
on quantitative data.

III. FOREIGN LANGUAGE:
Foreign Language coursework cultivates your skills in communication across ethnic, cultural, ideological, and national
boundaries, and helps you develop an understanding of other cultures and patterns of thought.
International Business specialization only – coursework or proficiency through the fourth quarter (104) of
a modern foreign language.
IV. SOCIAL DIVERSITY IN THE UNITED STATES: Select ONE.
Courses in Social Diversity help you foster an understanding of the pluralistic nature of institutions, society, and culture
in the United States.
You can overlap social diversity courses with another GEC category. If you do not overlap social diversity

Natural Science coursework fosters your understanding of the principles, theories, and methods of modern science; the
relationship between science and technology; the implications of scientific discoveries and the potential of science and
technology to address problems of the contemporary world.
Select one ten-hour sequence from Biological or Physical Sciences AND two additional science courses from
either the Biological or Physical Sciences. Both the Biological and Physical Sciences must be represented. At least

VII. ARTS & HUMANITIES: (20 hours)
Coursework in the Arts and Humanities involve evaluating significant writing and works of art. Such studies
develop capacities for aesthetic and historical response and judgment; interpretation and evaluation; critical
listening, reading, seeing, thinking, and writing; and experiencing the arts and reflecting on that experience.
This category contains the International Issues requirement and is divided into two subcategories: “Western/
United States” and “Non-Western/Non-United States.” International Issues coursework helps students become
educated, productive, and principled citizens of their nation in an increasingly globalized world.
Required: at least one course in History, one course in Literature, one course in Visual & Performing Arts,
and a fourth Breadth course chosen from either History (HIST), Literature (LIT), Visual & Performing Arts
(VPA), Cultures & Ideas (C&I), or Foreign Language (FL) at the 102-level or higher. At least one course
must have a Western/US focus [a] and a Non-Western/Non-US focus [b].
