Lewis You Know You Want To Go But if you need some extra convincing, check out the stories from those who attended last year’s convention: Check of the Common Reader for the 2015 Convention: “As I sat and stared at the submission page for the 2014 Sigma Tau Delta Convention, I swallowed my doubt. I ignored the voice in my head that said, ‘You may not get in,’ and squashed any feelings of anxiety. I reminded myself: there is nothing to lose. And a few weeks later, when I realized that I was going to be reading a piece that is very dear to my heart in front of a room full of people, I reminded myself of the same thing. Now that it’s months later, I can promise you, this experience will only lend you more opportunities. The convention is not only an opportunity for acknowledgment of individual skill, but it is also an opportunity to widen our community of writers. We have that community with our friends, our peers, and within Marist, but the convention is a chance to branch out. You will meet published authors who can lend advice and encouragement, as well as students from other schools across the U.S. who share the same aspirations and struggles as you. Beyond the convention itself, there is time to explore the chosen city, both with your school friends and with new members of a widening community. So with this in mind I say: dive in! Go to panels and listen to other students’ inspirations and considerations, travel the city and write down everything that inspires you, and be brave when you share your work in a room full of people who appreciate what it means to share something you’ve created. And remember: there’s nothing to lose.” ~Leah Butterwick, Class of 2014 An Experience of a Lifetime… “The opportunity to present at the convention last year was a phenomenal experience. It's really amazing to be part of an event where hundreds of people are gathered solely because they love literature - and are thrilled to hear what you love about it too! Even if you're a little nervous about the idea of presenting your writing to an audience, I'd encourage you to give it a chance because it is an incredibly welcoming environment and you'll feel so accomplished afterwards. Of course, the trip was a ton of fun too - there's plenty of time to adventure around the convention's host city, peruse an impressive selection of punny literary t-shirts, and attend open mic sessions and author readings. It's a 2014 Convention: River Current –Savannah, GA great time all around.” ~Erin Kane, Class of 2016 VOL. # ONE ISSUE #2 Convention 2015 and More!
