Advantages of Hydropower
• Electricity can be produced at a
constant rate
• Dams are designed to last many
decades
• No pollution
• More efficient than coal plants (up
to 90% rather than 30%)
• Can create recreational reservoirs
Disadvantages of
Hydropower
• Dams are expensive to build
• Changes environment / towns can
be flooded / Can cause problems
with fish population
• Alters the water table level
• Can impact water quality and flow
• Change and potential loss of
natural habitat

• Compact and easily portable (ex.
Used on ships/carriers)
• No carbon-based pollution
• Readily available technology
• Energy released by one atom in
