Ron Bass Scholarship
The Ron Bass scholarship is given in memory of Ron Bass, a solo practitioner who
had a strong belief in civil liberties and a
sincere interest in making a positive difference in his clients’ lives. This scholarship will be awarded to a continuing student who shows a sincere interest in civil
liberties and/or making a difference in
others’ lives as demonstrated through volunteer activities, coursework, and other
relevant factors, and is in need of scholarship support for the continuation of his/her

Legal Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded in memory of
Alonso Perales, an early Mexican American
lawyer in Texas, having been sworn into the
Bar in 1925. He practiced law in the Rio
Grande Valley and San Antonio until his
death in 1960. His papers and archives are
in the University of Houston Library, and
form the basis of an extensive record about
civil rights, immigration, and other legal
issues in the State. This award will be given
to a member of the UHLC Hispanic Law
Student Association (HLSA) whose record
of academic and service accomplishments
merit the recognition.

In commemoration of The Honoable Frank
G. Evans, this scholarship is awarded to students for outstanding performance in the
Mediation Clinic. The Honorable Frank G.
Evans is referred to as the “Father of ADR
in Texas,” because he was responsible for
drafting the Texas ADR statutes now part
of section 154 of the Texas Civil Practice
and Remedies Code. He was also the original donor to fund UH Law Center’s A.A.
White Dispute Resolution Center.

The Order of the Barristers is a national
honorary organization whose purpose is
the encouragement of oral advocacy and
