Perales Legal Scholarship This scholarship is awarded in memory of Alonso Perales, an early Mexican American lawyer in Texas, having been sworn into the Bar in 1925. He practiced law in the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio until his death in 1960. His papers and archives are in the University of Houston Library, and form the basis of an extensive record about civil rights, immigration, and other legal issues in the State. Evans, this scholarship is awarded to students for outstanding performance in the Mediation Clinic. The Honorable Frank G. Evans is referred to as the “Father of ADR in Texas,” because he was responsible for drafting the Texas ADR statutes now part of section 154 of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code.
