Expand your academic and creative aspirations! Marist’s Summer Pre-College is a summer academic program exclusively for rising juniors and seniors in high school. During your time here, you’ll learn from experienced professionals and talented faculty, while spending 14 days in the heart of the historic Hudson River Valley. You’ll make new friends and maybe even discover what you want to be when you grow up. Think that’ll happen at a summer job? Do you stay up late writing for the sports section of your school paper? Are you a sports television junkie who wants to learn more about the networks you watch? If so, then consider attending Marist’s Sports Communication Institute housed in Marist’s highly-regarded School of Communication and the Arts - one of the only schools in the country to offer dedicated study in sports communication. Spend two weeks with our talented and experienced faculty to explore topics such as story development from idea to press, the role of sports marketing, and the impact of sports media on society. Students will get hands-on experience with sports reporting and have a chance to ask questions of and interact with sports media professionals who are happy to share their experiences. 2016 Dates: June 26 - July 9 The New York campus offers one of the most scenic settings in the heart of the Hudson River Valley, an area renowned for over 400 years of American history. Discover how new technologies influence sports media Experience sports reporting and broadcasting Learn firsthand from sports media professionals Upon successful completion of the Summer Sports Communication Institute, each student will earn three (3) transferable college credits for the Marist College course COM 160, Introduction to Sports Communication. “Overall, the program at Marist was more than what I thought it would be. They can explore the beautiful campus and get a sense of what college-life is like at Marist. Resume Building Students can boost their resume (and their career) by attending a 3-credit college class before they finish high school. They also have the opportunity to network with industry professionals and potentially earn letters of recommendation.
