Dear Superintendents:
Please send us information highlighting success in your schools and districts. With the new
school year underway, you are working diligently with your principals, teachers and staff to
ensure the success of your students. Though it is an extremely busy time, it is still important to
pause and recognize the many accomplishments of your schools and districts. That is why I
would like you to take a moment to think about all of the great programs and initiatives that you
have helped to implement in your classrooms and then share them on our Celebrate NC Schools’
webpage at www.ncpublicschools.org/celebrate/.
These creative programs make a school or district unique, whether they are focused on
community service, healthy lifestyles, mentoring or something else, and they could serve as
models for districts across North Carolina. By maintaining a database full of these inventive
programs, we are providing a great opportunity for schools to learn from each other. Browse
through the programs and initiatives listed by county here
http://www.ncpublicschools.org/celebrate/sites/ to see if your programs are already listed. If
not, submit them to sara.clark@dpi.nc.gov by November 3 so we can share your great ideas with
educators across the state.
We love to highlight our schools’ successes and we also are always searching for stories to share
as the monthly feature here http://dpi.state.nc.us/celebrate/feature/. We also like to track
education news stories by filing them in our features archive here
http://dpi.state.nc.us/celebrate/archive/. We created the Celebrate NC Schools’ page in 2011 to
showcase all of the great programs in public schools across North Carolina and also to gather all
of the information and resources in one location. Visit the webpage to learn about what is going
on in other public schools, and to share your own inspiring stories.
Thank you for all you do for our 1.5 million public school students and for the State of North
Carolina. We look forward to celebrating your achievements and continuing to work together to
make the 2014-15 school year the best one yet.
Sincerely,
June St. Clair Atkinson
